About Jon Carroll Otterson
Born and raised in Indio,California, art has been an integral part of Jon's life since early childhood.
He's primarily recognized for his surrealist paintings, but also experiments with pen and ink, re-purposed materials, wood and reverse painted plexiglass with l.e.d's and fiber optics, among others. Much of his work evokes visual observation and commentary, or hidden meaning.
His first professional endeavor, was a political cartoon for an underground newspaper at the age of twelve.Social commentary often weaves through his art. Although, rarely obvious.
He produces work that is meticulous, but with an organic flow. Most of which are produced with only five original colors.
Jon is a self taught artist, musician, occasional poet, husband and father of five. A founding member of Centro Cultural de Bellas Artes, an original board member of the Miles Avenue Gallery Network, was active in the Directorship of the Physically Challenged Artists Association and is a current member of the Palm Springs Art Museum Artist Counsel.
Now, recently retired from over three decades with the Coachella Valley Water District, he's devoting his full attention to producing and sharing his art.
